when i stepped off the plane from china in 2006 , sweaty, tired, covered in banana's and formula i SWORE i was NEVER going to china again in the summer.after 19 days of 95 degree heat and 85% humidity i meant it, i really did. i don't like heat, i loathe humidity and my idea of a good time is a 60 degree day with a light wind and puffy clouds in the sky.
but here i am. its june and i am going to china. wtf ? it was as they say, an opportunity i could not pass up. good friends we have known forever were organizing a group of families from our school to go to china. in the summer. having ruby and hazel get to travel with pals who are also adopted was too important to pass up. i like the other families and though i am sure there will be "issues" of some sort that come up- with group travel there always are, i think i can manage. and if i can't there is always alcohol. i am only sorry that aunty b can't come with us this trip. i know that i am going to miss her humor and ability to get me out of crabby mode with a mrs fu lee puppet show, or watching her watch all the beautiful china men or ordering some crazy local food, or drinking "peachy" and eating curry flavored pringles.
the kids have been doing an adoption class all year preparing. they have grown even closer to the girls in our travel group. they dubbed themselves WG-CATS : woodstock girls adoption travel group. and we all have the t shirt to prove it. we had a little going away gathering last week to send them off which was sweet. they are so excited. i am not sure what they are looking forward to more, getting to go on a long plane ride with buddies, seeing china or wearing the shirts!
