reggae music

reggae music in my head this morning.

back in the day, when i was a college student, i had a radio show with 2 of my buddies. we were in the friday afternoon 3 to 5 pm slot. we loved it, a perfect start to the weekend. it was so exciting to head down to the student union building and walk up the orange carpeted stairs to kwcw, the radio station. some folks did a lot of talking on their shows. some had themes- like the cowboy show, the irish hour , reggae times. our show was different. we prided ourselves on an eclectic mix of stuff and little talking. i felt like a mini celebrity sometimes walking on campus - "love your show" was a frequent comment.although i hate to say it now, a cloud of clove cigarette smoke hung over our hour and hydration was usually in the form of beer or margaritas.

pre show my musical taste was pretty simple. boring late 70's really- the mama's and papa's linda ronstat, fleetwood mac, some grateful dead, neil diamond. (i can feel you cringing). until i started doing radio with e and m. suddenly whole new worlds were open to me. the station got promo records from everyone that were stored in bins. i took great delight in going in a few minutes early, scanning the new records we had gotten that week and testing them out, headphones on, dual turntable in action. i discovered the cars, the english beat, u2,bob marley. i'd grab a stack of old and new, known and unknown. i picked out the psa's i was going to use and waited for our show to be on.

we leave for china in the morning. so i decided to check to see what kind of temperatures and weather i can expect when we land in bejing on friday afternoon. its about 96 degrees in the shade according the heat index.
